“In case you were not aware, modern harpoons on whaling vessels are fitted with an exploding tip. This causes massive trauma and unbearable pain to the animal. Then, as it thrashes around trying to get free from its tether, it gets fired upon repeatedly with high powered rifles. Sometimes a whale can keep struggling for several hours, taking bullet after bullet after bullet before it succumbs to death. Putting an end to this barbarity is what drives the volunteers of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and is why they put their own lives at risk in the southern ocean whale sanctuary.”
